LiftLink: A Social Fitness App for Lifters

LiftLink: A Social Fitness App for Lifters

Overview

Overview

Overview

This project was developed over a four-week period for my Mobile App Design class. LiftLink is a mobile app concept designed for Olympic weightlifters and powerlifters to track their workouts, improve form, and connect with a like-minded community. At its core, LiftLink merges performance analytics with social interaction, giving users the ability to log their lifts, upload videos for feedback, and receive real-time AI-powered analysis and judging, including a unique three-light system inspired by official competition standards. The app fills a major gap in the fitness tech space by creating a dedicated platform tailored specifically for strength athletes who want both data-driven insights and authentic community support.

Approach

Approach

Approach

My approach centered on creating a seamless experience that balances function, motivation, and social engagement. I began by identifying pain points in existing fitness and lifting apps, such as lack of form feedback, generic tracking tools, and fragmented communities, and translated those insights into user-first solutions. Through wireframing, user task flows, and testing, I prioritized clarity, accessibility, and clean interaction design. I explored bold branding, intuitive UI elements, and a minimalist layout to reflect the intensity and focus of the lifting world while ensuring the app remained inviting for lifters at all levels.

Final Prototype

The final prototype of LiftLink brings the full vision of a social, performance-driven weightlifting app to life. Designed specifically for Olympic weightlifters and powerlifters, the prototype showcases a streamlined user experience, from logging workouts and recording lifts to receiving real-time AI feedback and visual bar path analysis. The home feed allows users to engage with the community, like and comment on workouts, and track their progress over time. The recording feature includes a live scoring system and AI-powered virtual judging using the iconic three-light system seen in competitions. Every screen was crafted with clarity, motivation, and athlete-focused usability in mind, capturing the energy and precision of the lifting world in a clean, modern interface.

Personnas

To ensure LiftLink was grounded in real user needs, I developed three detailed personas representing key segments of the lifting community: the dedicated athlete looking to push their limits and compete, the beginner lifter seeking form guidance and community support, and the competitive athlete craving structure and connection. These personas helped define the core functionality and social features of the app, ensuring it catered to both experienced powerlifters and those just starting out. By centering the experience around these users’ goals, frustrations, and motivations, LiftLink was shaped to be both performance-enhancing and deeply human.

Problem Statement

Weightlifters and powerlifters lack a dedicated platform that combines accurate workout tracking, meaningful form feedback, and a strong sense of community.

Wireframes

Wireframes

The wireframes for LiftLink served as the foundation for designing a clear, intuitive, and performance-focused user experience. Each screen was thoughtfully laid out to prioritize key user tasks such as logging workouts, recording lifts, viewing feedback, and engaging with the community. The home feed emphasizes video content and interaction, while the workout recording flow was designed with minimal friction to support in-gym use. Special attention was given to the commenting system, workout stats display, and navigation bar to make the app feel fluid and familiar, yet tailored to the unique needs of lifters. These low-fidelity wireframes allowed me to rapidly test functionality, iterate based on feedback, and define the core information architecture before moving into visual design.

The final LiftLink brand identity brings together bold energy and clarity through its visual system. The app icon features a sharp, geometric double “L” mark that conveys motion, strength, and structure, perfectly reflecting the spirit of Olympic weightlifting and powerlifting. The primary color palette uses vibrant greens and teals to evoke freshness, vitality, and progress, while the secondary colors, a deep navy and supporting cool tones, ground the interface in strength and professionalism. From the two primary app colors, I pulled a shade and tint from each in order to use them consistently across the UI, or backgrounds, buttons, highlights, and hover states, creating depth while maintaining brand cohesion. The typographic hierarchy was designed for quick scannability: large, expressive headings (H1, H2) energize the content, while body and subtext remain clean and understated, ensuring users can focus on performance and community interaction with ease.
